Spring into the Weekend! Here Are Eight Great Activities

Spring into the Weekend! Here Are Eight Great Activities

The La Lucha patio

WHETHER YOU WANT to walk with a purpose, or just stroll a local arts market, H-Town boasts a bevy of activities for every speed this weekend.

Work Out for a Cause

AIDS Foundation Houston is trying out something new this year for its 32nd annual AIDS Walk. Register online and pick your own activity — walking, running, swimming, dancing, cooking, painting, singing — to raise money and help end the HIV epidemic in Houston. If going solo isn't your thing, participants can create a team, join one that's already made, or just donate. The event ends Thursday, April 1, and prizes will be awarded to individuals for every $50, $125, $500 and $1000 they raise.

Celebrate Selena — and Support a Theater!

Movie-lovers mourning the loss of River Oaks Theatre can support another Texas tradition, Alamo Drafthouse, which filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of the month, this weekend. The one at LaCenterra in Katy presents Selena, the 1997 flick celebrating the Texas singer and her rise to stardom in Tejano music, on Friday at 7:30pm.

Hit a New Happy Hour

There's no shortage of happy-hour steals and deals in this town, but every week seems to bring a new batch of must-try bevs and bar bites at hot spots all over Houston. CityBook rounded up three social-hours to hit now — from Downtown to the Heights!

Nurture Your Post-Freeze Green Thumb

Still short on some potted pals after last month's crazy weather? Fret not — the Arboretum has you covered. Friday and Saturday from 9am-4pm, head over to the Spring Plant Sale to find a variety of native grasses, flowers, trees and shrubs to liven your home. Find a complete list of available plants here; pricing varies according to plant size, with four-inch plants for $4.50, one-gallon plants for $9, and three-to-five-gallon plants for $30, with discounts available for members.

Rev Up Your Style with Jenni Kayne

This weekend Jenni Kayne, the California-based lifestyle brand, is driving into River Oaks District. From Friday through Wednesday, fashion-forward Houstonians can browse breezy dresses, chunky fisherman sweaters, utilitarian bucket bags, springy slides and mules, and home-décor items like candles and throw blankets — all displayed in a vintage 1956 Airstream. Special promos and events include complimentary floral bouquets from Composto Fiori and an "egg hunt" for special gifts and discounts on Friday; and floral-arrangement demonstrations, again from Composto Fiori, on Saturday at 11am and 4pm.

Peruse a March Market

Head over to The Parkway at Regent Square this Sunday from noon to 4pm for a spring-flowers-themed market in recognition of the city's most beautiful time of year. Here, guests can find facial products, accessories, artwork and much more! There will also be music, food and a complimentary watercolor activity kit for the first 50 attendees.

Pottery available at Regent Square's Market Day

Munch on Mudbugs

Still haven't gotten your fix of crawfish? La Lucha's got you covered. Sunday from 11am 'til the goods are gone, La Lucha celebrates the season with its annual crawfish boil. Fixins available include boiled potatoes and corn for $1, roasted garlic for $1, and sausage for $9. (For anyone who isn't feeling the mudbug love, the full menu will still be available all day!)

Shots, Shots, Shots!

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo tweeted on Tuesday that every adult in Texas will be eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine beginning Monday. The waitlist is currently open, so this weekend is a good time to make a plan to get your shot. Registration is available online or by phone; find more information here.

Consistent Focus on the Patient Is What Sets Montrose Med Spa Apart

Owner Maricela Olivo and Montrose Med Spa

WHAT MAKES MONTROSE Med Spa stand apart from the competition? We set ourselves apart from the competition by being consistently focused on one thing: the patient. With that focus, we will succeed in a successful and healthy experience and loyalty to Montrose Med Spa. Staying true to our message of intentional wellness is a point of difference where I see other spas being unclear and distracted in their direction. By listening to our patients, we ensure we meet and exceed their expectations. We continually stay on top of the market by offering the best innovative body sculpting and skin treatments that invigorate and energize and are specifically designed to restore balance and strength and renew youth to the body. We also utilize a number of marketing programs to stay on the minds of our guests, including radio, TV, direct mail, email blasts, and unique invitations for exclusive treatments. One element that helps to establish the bar and sets us apart from our competition is our emphasis on providing a complete medical gym experience—from the varied treatments with Emsculpt Neo to a personalized health and wellness and skin evaluation for each individual by our certified staff. We also provide a noninvasive, pain-free, and needle-free facelift through EMFace in addition to offering monthly beauty memberships that create a commitment to the overall wellbeing of the patient.
