Courtney Blair and Lindsay Robinson have some big shoes to fill as the new principals of Tokerud + Co, a Houston interior design firm founded in 1991 by Marlys Tokerud. Last summer, the esteemed Tokerud lost her battle with cancer and left a design community heartbroken. Beloved in the industry, Tokerud was on the Design Council for the MFAH and a board member on the Decorative Arts Committee. Her firm was regarded as one of the best in the city.

Houstonian Nina Magon, principal of Contour Interior Design, has been anointed by Popsugar as “the design industry’s next it girl,” and Oprah’s décor guru Nate Berkus has declared, “Nina is a design force to be reckoned with!” And Magon’s latest glam masterpiece in an enormous 7,000-square-foot contemporary Italianate villa in Bellaire is a perfect example of what all the buzz is about. The homeowners, who are the parents of two small children, “wanted modern, but not cold modern,” explains Magon, 37. “I went for a mod-Italian-European feel.”

ART-LOVING INTERIOR designer Garrett Hunter and architect Michael Landrum have opened Tienda X (1420 W. Alabama St.) in the Museum District. The yogastudio- turned-design-shop focuses on 20th-century modernist pieces, artisanmade furniture, and rarified antiques. Works from Pierre Jeanneret and Afra Scarpa are displayed alongside artifacts dating as far back as the Ming Dynasty. Hunter and Landrum recently launched their own in-house collection of furniture and lighting which currently includes a line of statement-making floor lamps and steel custom commissions.
