Ring in the Chinese New Year in Delicious Style

A new decade dawned on Jan. 1 — but this weekend brings the Lunar New Year and establishes 2020 as the Year of the Rat, which is certainly worth celebrating. Foodie-fab events and art-filled festivals alight around the city over the next few days.

For arguably the most delicious way to celebrate, visit the newly expanded Phat Eatery in Katy, where an eight-course feast prepared by chef-owner Alex Au-Yeung is very hotly anticipated. There are four sold-out seatings throughout the weekend — but a waitlist is live, so hop on if you want to get a taste of the Yu Sheng “Prosperity Toss” —raw salmon, pickled carrot and plum sauce — or the Grandma Char Siu, which is charcoal-grilled Berkshire pork with Texas honey.

Alternatively, raise a glass at Rosalie, on the ground floor of Downtown’s C. Baldwin. Beverage director Jay Pyle created a beautiful cocktail of matcha green tea syrup, lemon juice, gin and seltzer; the color green signifies wealth and money for the new year.

Cultural institutions like the MFAH host family-friendly festivals with arts-and-crafts, fun performances and delicious bites all day long on Saturday. And in EaDo, HTX Market and 8thWonder Brewery team up for an all-day party, complete with food trucks and an art market.

As Escape Spa Expands in 2025, Owner Has Advice on Personal Growth: ‘Focus on Intention Setting’

CHANGE IS A good thing, and with the start of a new year, I always like to reflect on how far I've come and start fresh by setting self-care goals for the coming months. Guiding a business through growth and change is also one of my passions, so I am very pleased to announce that Escape Spa is going to be expanding in 2025! We’re honored that we’ve built such a loyal following since opening in Cypress in July of 2022, and we’re thrilled to be in a position to grow our wellness and recovery sanctuary just outside of Houston.
