Montrose Tex-Mex Fave Fires Up Al Fresco Brunch

IT'S AL FRESCO brunch season in Houston, and Candente has rolled out a new menu for the occasion. Boasting a large buzzy patio — with lots of fans! — the Montrose Tex-Mex charmer is known for its live-fire cooking technique that gives food a signature Mesquite-grilled flavor.

The new brunch menu offers twists to some of Candente’s most popular dishes. The enchiladas con huevos are familiar cheesy goodness — but topped with two over-easy eggs. But the real showstopper is the breakfast burrito: It’s stuffed with meat, beans, cheese and covered in queso (because why not?) And no Tex-Mex brunch menu would be complete without chilaquiles or tamales! The tamales are topped with chili and fried eggs for good measure.

Pair the mouthwatering meal with one of the new brunch cocktails like the jalapeno-laced Bloody Mary, or one of Candente’s new margaritas of the month. April’s flavor is the patio-friendly spicy watermelon marg made with watermelon liquor and jalapeno.

Brunch is served Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm.

WHEN YOU TALK to Los Angeles-born actor Cheech Marin, regardless of how serious the subject, you can’t help but smile. IT STARTS OFF with a bang: a triumphant C major chord, its root, third, and fifth voiced across the entire orchestra. It’s as if you came home from a long day at work, entered your home to find the lights out then suddenly on, and a group of fashionable 18th-century Viennese men and women shouting in unison: “Surprise!”
