Two New Happy Hours to Kick Off the Weekend

Raspberry Lychee Martini at Musaafer

FINISH THE WEEK strong and hit the hopping new happy hours at two glam Galleria-area restaurants.

Musaafer — the luxe, 10,000-square-foot Indian spot in the mall's still-new "jewel box" wing, from restaurateurs Mithu and Shammi Malik — has rolled out a new specialty menu, available on weekdays from 5pm-6:30pm. Find deals on signature cocktails (Raspberry Lychee martini, anyone?) and bottles of wine, and take a culinary journey through India's 29 states via happy-hour plates like coriander prawns and chana palak sliders.

Down the street at La Table, the two-level French affair that reopened just before the holidays, score discounted drinks from 5pm-7pm Tuesdays through Thursdays — or hold out for reverse happy hour on Friday and Saturdays from 8pm-11pm. Both timeframes boast $10 G&Ts, Provence Margaritas (with lavender syrup and crème de violette) and chocolate martinis; select beers are $4 and glasses of wine are $10.

We'll drink to that!

The name “March of Dimes” was suggested by entertainer Eddie Cantor as a way to encourage people to donate even a small amount, like a dime, to help fight polio.

THE DOCTOR IS in! One of Houston’s most engaged civic leaders, Jacquie Baly, has a new title after earning her Doctorate in Education and Organizational Change & Leadership from USC. And some of the city’s heavy hitters turned up for a swanky reception at Tony’s to congratulate her. “Education and community leadership go hand in hand,” said Dr. Baly. “This honor fuels my continued mission to create meaningful change.”

And they weren’t alone in their admiration. Both the City of Houston and the State of Texas declared the day of the to-do “Dr. Jacquie Baly Day,” complete with official proclamations.
