Strike 'Golden'! Celeb-Beloved Online Jewelry Boutique Opens Brick-and-Mortar in Spring Branch

AFTER NEARLY 12 years of operating as an e-commerce site, Golden Thread is opening its first retail storefront on Oct. 14, at 9135 Katy Fwy., Suite 200. Former neonatal-ICU-nurse-turned-designer and native Houstonian Jennifer Welker will stock her collection of everyday-chic jewelry.

A grand-opening party tomorrow features sips, light bites, sweet treats and door prizes, plus 30 percent off all in-store purchases from 10am-8pm. Complimentary valet parking is available.

What was once a hobbyist escape from the emotional toll of working in the NICU turned into an in-demand jewelry line. Founded in 2010, Golden Thread has been worn by Taylor Swift, Pippa Middleton, Emma Stone, Sophia Bush and other celebs.

Welker hopes to help women tell their stories through her accessories. Jewelry is an easy conversation starter because it usually represents something unique — an important date, milestone or keepsake. "It gives the wearer an opportunity to share their story, to live out their mantras or to be reminded of something or someone near and dear," a representative for the brand said in a statement.

Welker thoughtfully designs each piece of jewelry with heirloom quality in mind, but at an affordable price point. The brand includes classic and personalized jewelry, along with "game day" accessories for sports fans, beach bags, jewelry-making kits and other great gifts.

The 1,550 square-foot space is designed by VMA Interiors and features art by Houston-based artist Kellie Morley. Hayley Harcastle, owner of HH Design House, designed the store's calligraphy sign.

How did you get where you are today? “Life is what happens while you’re making plans.” After graduating with a BBA from the University of Texas, I married, and was a stay-at-home mom. Divorcing when my children were just four and six, I became their sole supporter, and I chose real estate for the time flexibility and income potential. After four years working for another Broker, I founded my own company with one sales associate and 375 square feet. Little did I imagine this journey. Houston offers amazing opportunities for those who are willing to work hard and persevere! I have watched the city mature with the addition of all the wonderful, talented people from around the country and around the world who have made Houston their home. It was once said that Houston had a “can do, cowboy capitalism attitude.”
