Mark Your Calendars for these Sizzling June Foodie Events

JUNE IS HEATING up with food and drink events you don’t want to miss. To get kick off summer, check out a new social hour, begin planning a special Father’s Day, or learn the basics of sushi rolling and brisket cookery!


Montrose Cheese & Wine Tasting Tours

Starting today, Montrose Cheese & Wine hosts a winery or importer for a (free!) public tasting on Wednesdays (5-7pm), giving guests access to notable wines from all over the world. From iconic wineries highlighting the shop’s range, to import portfolios showcasing multiple producers, the Tasting Tour might be the perfect mid-week happy hour for you. Wines tasted in-store will be available for purchase or can be pre-ordered, subject to availability. This evening’s tasting tour stars Rare Wine Co.’s European gems, and the series culminates July 19 with the Sommelier Smackdown, Jack Mason MS vs Craig Collins MS. Southern Smoke Festival Tickets

The big bash returns and tickets go on sale today at noon. Join Southern Smoke on Friday, Oct. 13, and Saturday, Oct. 14, for a multi-event festival featuring some of the food and beverage industry’s most talented chefs and personalities, all to support F&B workers in crisis nationwide. You’ll eat your share in big and bold bites; have your choice of superb wine, beer, and spirits, along with live music. Proceeds will benefit Southern Smoke Foundation, which has distributed more than $10.5 million to food-and-bev workers nationwide.

Feges BBQ in Spring Branch is turning 2! Head over to the Long Point outpost this Father's Day, June 18 (11am-3pm), for a day of BBQ, drinks and fun for the whole gang. Miss Kathy's will be serving snowballs, there will be plenty of activities and snacks to entertain the kiddos, and drink specials for the adults. Hungry for the works? Order the Feges BBQ platter with brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage, and your choice of 3 sides and dessert ($50), or a Father's-Day-only two-meat plate with two sides ($20).

Sunday, June 10, is Uchiko’s immersive sushi rolling class followed by a delectable multi-course dinner (6pm, $125). Discover the techniques behind creating makimono as the sushi chef shares his expertise and guides you through each step. You’ll be in for friendly competition, too, as the maker of the best roll will receive a prize! Menu highlights include Texas wagyu carpaccio; blackened salmon; hotate maki (scallop, avocado, lime powder); and gyutoro (72-hour sous vide wagyu).

Give your wine-loving dad the ultimate gift this Father’s Day by reserving a spot for the annual Dads & Cabs wine tasting events at all steakhouse locations. Expect a lineup of world class cabernets hand-selected by Pappas' team of trained sommeliers. Wine selections vary by location, but guests can expect to taste at least 12 expressions of cabernets from around the world. Two locations, two dates ($150): Houston Galleria (June 15, 5:30-7pm) and Houston Downtown (June 16, 5:30-7pm).

Smoking Essentials at R-C Ranch

On June 21 from 6-7:30pm, R-C Ranch’s expert pitmaster Brian DeVore will provide the essentials on how to properly smoke unforgettable brisket and ribs. Learn how to trim, prep, rub (or brine) and cook a brisket from start to finish, and get tips on using your smoker. You’ll also learn about wood smoke profiles, temperatures, timing, wrapping, slicing, and serving. Expect to sample juicy pre-smoked brisket, sandwiches and ribs. When you register for the class, there’s an option to pre-order a R-C Ranch wagyu brisket. Choose pre-smoked brisket or the uncooked brisket if you want to try out your new smoking skills. Tickets $100 per person.

Teeling Tasting Dinner at Julep

Join James Beard Award-winning bar Julep on June 21 for a four-course tasting dinner ($95) featuring Teeling Irish Whisky. Sip through a selection of Teeling’s served with food pairings by Julep’s own chef Calvin Miller. Start with beet salad with whipped blue cheese and pistachio, and segue to courses such as crabcakes and duck confit, each paired with the perfect cocktail.
