Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies toasted 50 years of lifelong learning with a day-long Festival of Curiosity. Rice benefactors, staff members and neighborhood families gathered to enjoy arts and crafts, food truck fare and music courtesy of the Marching Owl Band and DJ Mycle, all while learning about the school’s history and curriculum. ... Meanwhile, another Houston institution also celebrated its 50th anniversary. River Oaks Country Club hosted hundreds of John Daugherty, Realtors agents and supporters for the celebratory happy hour, which included a video tribute to the firm’s namesake.

ONE OF THE many amazing things about William Shakespeare is how well his comedies and tragedies communicate when reimagined in contemporary settings. Shakespeare’s language may be highfalutin, but the Bard always had his ear to the street — and always gave audiences a healthy dose of grand guignol (i.e. blood and more blood) along with the poetry.
