A pair of glam parties benefited two children’s charities. At billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s posh pad, a hat-clad crowd gathered on Cinco de Mayo for a Kentucky Derby watch party. Event chairs Megan and Luke Hotze and Hannah and Cal McNair were thrilled with the festive turnout of 400-plus — and with a till of $350,000, which went to Bo’s Place. Meanwhile, an intimate gathering at B&B Butchers toasted fall’s upcoming Knock Out Child Abuse event. In September, some 20 amateur boxers — mostly oil and gas honchos, who will train under heavyweight boxing champ Lou Savarese this summer — step into the ring in the name of charity, with proceeds from the event benefiting the Children’s Assessment Center.

The Dunlavy’s chandelier-bedecked space and bayou views provide a recipe for instant urban-glam. But Jacqueline Soussan and Aaron Almquist enlisted Pomp & Circumstance to infuse the venue with a hint of rustic romance for their September 2017 nuptials. Bronze and gold accents shimmered in the glass-encased room and on the wood-clad deck, offset by bright white arrangements courtesy of Flora & Eventi. Other warm touches included gold-calligraphied table numbers, a kids zone, complete with crayons and a coloring sheet, and comfort-food bites like donut holes. With their adorable, tux-clad infant son by their side for much of the night, which took place just three weeks after Hurricane Harvey, the Almquists toasted to new beginnings.

Curtain Calls

The Alley Theatre toasted two plays with opening-night dinners. The world premiere of Suzanne Vega’s Lover, Beloved: An Evening with Carson McCullers was the first production to take the stage in the new Neuhaus Theatre, restored after Hurricane Harvey. Dozens of patrons joined managing director Dean Gladden to mark the occasion with a City Kitchen-catered dinner before the show. And just a couple weeks later, patrons enjoyed a seated dinner with playwright and director Terry Teachout before the opening of his Satchmo at the Waldorf.
