Getting gala-ready doesn’t always mean donning black-tie attire! Just ask the folks at Catastrophic Theatre, who threw a too-fun toga party at Downtown-area Rec Room, which featured Greek food and, of course, plenty of vino. And the Jeans & Jerseys party raised nearly $300,000 for Project 88, a foundation established by Houston Texan Garrett Graham and his wife Ericka to ensure guidance counselors are available in public schools.

Music lovers gathered to celebrate two suite symphonic organizations. Mercury’s 10th annual gala marked the grand opening of the beautiful new Revaire venue, and raised more than $400,000 for the orchestra. The decor, courtesy of A Fare Extraordinaire, included live greenery and blooms of saturated colors. Meanwhile, chairs Robin Angly and Miles Smith channeled the glamour of the 1940s and 1950s for the Symphony Ball, held at the Post Oak Hotel. The Balinese Room-themed event — which included the auction of unique items like a wild-hog hunt int he Hill Country, and private tours of the Buffalo Bayou Cistern — was followed by a raucous afterparty, with beats spun by DJ Kalkutta.

Hitting a High Note

Even though Hurricane Harvey displaced the HGO from its home in the Wortham, patrons and staff found much to celebrate at this year’s Opera Ball. Held at the impossibly glam Post Oak Hotel, the white-tie event channeled Old-Hollywood style, with a ballroom that recalled a swanky supper club on Sunset Boulevard. The Encore after-party continued well into the night, and included a Champagne toast, specialty cocktails dubbed “Fred” and “Ginger,” and plenty of dancing. The night raised more than $1.25 million.
