At a moment when new restaurants named after women — Rosalie, Rosie Cannonball — are intriguing the foodie set, the O.G. lady-named hotspot has Houston enamored all over again. James Beard-lauded chef Robert Del Grande's former Café Annie, a Galleria area star that's no stranger to reinvention, had been refashioned as The Annie Café & Bar, now with new owner Ben Berg of B&B Butchers and a growing slew of other notable eateries; Emmaline co-owner and ever-smiling front-of-house guy Sam Governale is also attached. At the same time, another old-school favorite — this one the male-monikered Benjy's of Rice Village — has also been remade and reintroduced.

The brunch bunch has three new members! Ben Berg’s B.B. Italia (14795 Memorial Dr., 281.531.0696) is now dishing a “spaghetti western” omelet, B.B. Italia Hash and more, on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-3pm. At sceney Ouzo Bay (in River Oaks District), expect a deliciously messy inside-out Brioche French toast and half-off rosé on weekends. And on Sundays at Doris Metropolitan (2815 Shepehrd Dr.), savor exactly the brunch one would expect from an Israeli steakhouse: Sambusak — dough filled with spiced ground beef and pine nuts — along with steak and eggs.

Internationally renowned health spa Cal-a-Vie, the Southern California dream destination owned by Houston power couple Terri and John Havens, is continually evolving and improving — just as it encourages its guests to do. “We pride ourselves on being on the cusp of beauty, body, fitness and nutrition,” says Terri. She cites the intense new “turbo-jolt” massage that “flushes out all of the toxins” in the body; and a unique nutritional test called Wellness FX, which can pinpoint food intolerances and hormone imbalances. And the vineyard’s fabulous, 300-year-old Parish house was recently imported from Dijon, France, with its own outdoor fireplace and panoramic vistas to soak up during wine tastings.
