IT'S ONLY BEEN two short weekends since divey Downtown staple Little Dipper, the sister bar of beloved Montrose haunt Poison Girl, became the first bar on Main Street to expand its patio into the roadway as part of the city's new "More Space: Main Street" program. But Little Dipper, which has suffered a, well, big dip in business do to the ongoing pandemic, has already seen a hefty increase in sales.

DISCOVERY GREEN UNVEILED its renovated John P. McGovern Playground yesterday, and it promises to quickly become a favorite among Houston area kiddos and parents alike. Although construction was completed on the new Mendez Play Space — a $2.3 million project that rests in the park's northwest corner, bordering La Branch and McKinney Streets — in August of last year, the finished project remained walled-off behind construction fencing due to Covid-related city ordinances.

THERE'S NO SHORTAGE of wildlife along the ample trails that line the city's bayous, but soon cyclists, joggers and walkers alike will be able to take in wildlife in another dimension — 2D, that is. Coming soon to the Bayou Greenway trail, at the confluence of White Oak and Buffalo Bayous, right next to the University of Houston-Downtown's One Main Building, is a wildlife-themed mural by Ink Dwell studio co-founder and artist Jane Kim that will showcase some of the birds that make their home in our city's bayous. San Francisco-based Kim is responsible for dozens of public installations across the country highlighting the migration patterns of wildlife.
