Secretly Shy Radio DJ Amir Diamond Shines — Especially After a Glass of Spiked Eggnog

ACTOR AND RADIO personality Amir Diamond is arguably one of Houston’s favorite voices — not only on his chart-topping show, The Afternoon Hustle on KTSU’s The Vibe, but on his IG, too. Boasting nearly 30k followers, the Houston native is an influential entertainer who’s been dubbed “The Hustler” by Beyonce herself. He emits positivity through the airwaves year-round, but during the holidays, it’s all about showing love to his community — and perfecting a mouthwatering mac and cheese dish for his fam. Here’s how he answered our seasonal survey!

Santa already knows, so you might as well tell the truth. Were you naughty or nice this year? Hella nice. I’ve been single all year. I’m looking for a cute and kind man to be naughty with next year until forever. Any takers?!

What’s something about you people would find surprising? Even though I talk on the radio for a living, I’m super quiet and shy in real life.

Favorite holiday tradition? As of this year, I’ve become the person that my family has entrusted to make the most important dish for holiday dinner from here on out: the mac and cheese.

Best way to warm up on a cold winter’s night? In some sweats with the heat on blast, a glass of spiked eggnog, and a good stand-up comedy special.

Your elf stripper name — of course, that’s a thing, duh — is a beloved childhood toy plus a dessert your grandmother used to make. Go! Stretch Armstrong Bean Pie! (Don’t ask.)

Where’s the best place to find holiday cheer in Houston? I enjoy going to this place called Sleek for hot chocolate, coffee, tea, fresh crepes and waffles. They serve just about anything that adds five pounds to the waist line.

If you were arrested without explanation, what would your friends and family think you had done? Got racially profiled. In case you haven’t seen it or heard it in a while: Black Lives Matter!

Is there a charitable cause you support? Urban Souls Dance Company. I’m a big supporter and product of the arts. It’s important to continue to fuel nonprofits like this to help give people a place to tell stories through the talents that they have been blessed with.

What would you choose as your last meal? I never liked giving that question energy, because it assumes that type of day may come. So I’ll just tell you my all time favorite meal: Beef enchiladas (with onions on top), Mexican rice, refried black beans and a sweet tea.

SINCE OPENING IN 2019, it’s been hard to get a reservation at Traveler’s Table, the global-cuisine eatery on Westheimer. Now, a more accessible version of the popular resto — yet, still stylish and modern with environs designed by Gin Braverman — is opening this week on Montrose Boulevard at West Gray.
